You can be a part of the historic 1749 Lewis Store, built by George Washington’s brother-in-law and apparently the oldest extant retail building in America. Put your name – or the name of a child, grandparent or other special person – on a custom brick in the sidewalk surrounding the Fielding Lewis Store.

Create a lasting memento to honor a person or special event. With customized engraving, these etched bricks will also be a permanent reminder of your gift to the Historic Fredericksburg Foundation, Inc. (HFFI).

In addition to an etched brick in the Lewis Store sidewalk, your donation entitles you to a certificate suitable for framing.

...Be a memorable part of Fredericksburg history

The Historic Fredericksburg Foundation, Inc. received the Lewis Store as a gift from a past president, and then restored the building. In September 2006, we moved our offices here.

The foundation plans to turn the front room into an interactive museum of Lewis Store history, also highlighting past and present preservation efforts in our community, including lost buildings and archeological remains recently uncovered.

The foundation publishes and sells books and journals about Fredericksburg history as well as an annual pewter Christmas ornament. Please stop by the store to see our displays and to purchase any items. 
All proceeds from sales help HFFI achieve its goals of preserving, protecting and revitalizing the distinctive historic environment and cultural resources of the Fredericksburg area. We accomplish this through education, advocacy and financial support.

Bricks are available at the following levels of sponsorship:

Betty Washington Lewis -- $500
Mary Ball Washington -- $250
George Washington -- $100

Print text exactly as you wish it to appear in the squares, using one character per square. Be sure to leave a blank square for spaces between names, initials, etc. The Historic Fredericksburg Foundation, Inc., reserves the right to abbreviate and/or move words in order to provide the clearest, most legible engraving.
